What’s bright, hot, and impossible to miss this summer? Why, it’s none other than June’s Glam Bag design. Inspired by sunny days and hot summers filled with bold and beautiful colors, designer Joanne Wong perfectly captures the feel of a sun-kissed season with high-impact hues—selected in honor of June’s Pride Month—in flexuous, Matisse-esque shapes that resemble succulents and sunflowers. It’s the perfect way to showcase the bag’s new neoprene material, which is a “lightweight, soft, and relaxing fabric [that] reminds me of a wetsuit,” says Wong.

The most challenging part of the bag’s design? The zipper. “I wanted to do something different and new to pair with the neoprene bag,” says Wong. “I started to think about summer outdoor bag materials, and I got inspired by nylon rope keychains you often see on backpacks and belt packs. I thought it would be a great new puller idea to give our Glam Bag a sporty summer look.” 

We can see this bag looking stylish anywhere—from the tennis courts to the roller rinks—thanks to Wong’s playful and unbridled vision of summer fun. The designer’s ultimate goal was to mix versatility with utility to create a Glam Bag that would “match your summer festival and travel looks with ease.” To that, we say mission accomplished!

The May 2024 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

Before you even think to cite everyone’s favorite mid-aughts rom-com with a, “Florals for spring…groundbreaking,” let us assure you, May’s moody floral Glam Bag design is truly one-of-a-kind (more on that below).

“This month, I got inspired by florists,” says Glam Bag designer Joanne Wong. “Flower shops are always filled with the colorful flowers around Mother’s Day. I also saw the trend of floral wallpaper for 2024 as people brought outdoor beauty and nature into their homes after the pandemic.”

If you’re in an LTR (long-term relationship) with us, then you’ve surely seen our floral Glam Bags of the past, but Wong made sure to make this year’s version a standalone fave. “Instead of capturing all the brightly colored flowers, this year we want to focus on softness: quiet rituals in our own lives and prioritizing emotional care and meaningful experiences.” The moody floral printed over a smooth faux leather accomplished just that. 

What we love even more is that each May Glam Bag is unique. “The floral print is a repeat pattern,” explains Wong. “It’s an all-over print, so every bag has a slightly different print on the front and back.” One thing they all have in common, however, is the iconic gold IPSY zipper puller.

The April 2024 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

The second Pantone announced that their color of the 2024 is Peach Fuzz, we started counting down the days until we could reveal our April 2024 Glam Bag design, which features… (wait for it!) A FUZZY PEACH!

While Earth Day tends to evoke images of green and leaves and trees, this year we decided to step outside—literally—and look for design elements that connect to Mother Nature. “Walking at the park, I was drawn to the colors of the skies, the sunlight, and the bright sunflowers and fruit trees,” says Joanne Wong, IPSY’s Senior Designer for Fashion and Accessories. “Those beautiful colors are the main inspiration for my design.”

On April’s Glam Bag, you’ll see a blue and white striped cotton canvas inspired by clouds in the sky, and the yellow zipper tape and woven IPSY label are a nod to both sunlight and wildflowers. Wong elaborates: “For Earth Day month, we wanted to design a Glam Bag with the material that is more environmentally friendly and contains more natural fiber. We purposely chose to use the cotton canvas fabric, design a non-metal zipper puller, and create a more organic and sustainable look for the bag.”

The real cherry on top (well, peach) is the peach-shaped pom-pom zipper puller with felt green leaves. “To add a pinkish-orange hue, Pantone’s Color of the Year, to the simple striped cotton canvas bag, we designed a 3D peach zipper puller with the materials that we haven’t used before,” says Wong. To achieve the perfect peachy pom-pom, Wong sampled the material a few times looking for the right materials, size, and shape. “The challenging part is how to put the peach on the bag, but we are happy that we were able to find a similar green string to attach the peach puller to the zipper.” We’re obsessed with how soft this zipper puller is. Plus, when you pull the zipper open, you’ll see the surprise peachy lining inside the bag.

The March 2024 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

Things are heating up around here—and it’s not just the weather. This month, we’re channeling our B.F.E. (Big Feminine Energy) with a Glam Bag design that will go down in history… Women’s History Month, that is. We spoke to Joanne Wong, the woman behind the design to find out what went into this first-of-its-kind Glam Bag—more on that later. Keep scrolling for your behind-the-scenes glimpse into your March Glam Bag. 

“For Women’s History Month, our color palette theme was soft and femme with earth tones,” says Glam Bag designer Joanne Wong. She was inspired by elements of nature like gorgeous swirling granite and the stunning shades of raw clays and even fungus. (Sneak peek: You might also find these shades pop up in some Glam Bag makeup this month!) 

Wong took these colors and lent them to abstract liquified marble artwork that was printed over a light textured faux leather on the front of the bag. The back of the Glam Bag features a complementary chestnut brown faux leather, and it’s all completed with pops of color including a maize yellow IPSY printed logo and matching zipper tape, a rose gold zipper, and a light blue lining.

But the true star of this Glam Bag show is the zipper puller. “It is our first time using the oversized beaded zipper puller on our Glam Bag,” says Wong. “The three different color beads are so unique, and we are able to use the tiny white pearl bead at the end to give the puller a nice finish. Using the round soft-matte finish beads and marble-like textured artwork created harmony between all the elements and added to the soft and organic vibes of the bag.”

The February 2024 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

If there’s one trend that everyone at IPSY is all about this year, it’s the coquette beauty trend. A quick scroll through your Instagram feed or TikTok FYP will reveal an abundance of coquettish accents, including satin and velvet accessories, romantic lace-up tops, and all the bows. 

It’s from this emerging trend (the bow boom is real, y’all!) that our designer Joanne Wong took inspiration for the February 2024 Glam Bag design. Not only is the timing spot-on with Valentine’s Day fast approaching, but the resulting Glam Bag design also feels like one of our most luxe looks yet.

“For the Valentine’s Day month, we wanted to design the February Glam Bag with a combination of romance and sexy to show off femme energy,” says Wong. “The soft pink with ruffle textured feels very soft and romantic, and the black zipper tape and black ribbon bow add a little of sexiness to the bag.”

The result is a Glam Bag design that would fit right in on the spring/summer 2025 runways of brands like Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton, and Alexander McQueen, where black bra tops, pink satin slip dresses, silky blouses, and draped ruffled gowns reigned supreme. 

We’re totally obsessed with ruffled faux satin fabric and black ribbon bow tied on the heart-shaped engraved IPSY zipper charm, but one of our favorite parts comes when you unzip the bag—and we’re not just talking about the personalized beauty products that are housed inside. “When you unzip the bag, you will see an unexpected faux satin lining in the pop color of pistachio green,” says Wong. This colorful surprise puts a smile on our face with every pull of that heart-shaped zipper charm.

The January 2024 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

Refreshing color combos. Gentle neons. Revitalizing pastels. January’s Glam Bag design is here to help you soft launch 2024. By embracing a new color palette, it will give you the energy to take on a brand-new year.

“We were inspired by 2024 spring/summer trend reports,” says Glam Bag designer Joanne Wong. “The cultural trend is referred to as Gentle Vitality. The bright pastel colors are cheery but soft and refreshing. It encourages us to be softer and slower in the new year. We also continue to see dewy and glowy skin and bright eyeshadows in the beauty trends, so we wanted to see some sparkly and shiny texture on the bag.”

That’s where January’s unique design comes in. Instead of our go-to faux leather fabric, Wong explored new options that combine both softness and shine. The round iridescent sequins complement the silver zipper, IPSY metal zipper pull, and soft pink lining. “I am in love with this gorgeous unique fabric,” adds Wong. “It’s full of the iridescent sequins that reflect light and colors, and it makes the Glam Bag very sparkly and shiny. What a very unique and fun bag to start the new year!”

Wong continues: “If you look closer at the bag, the fabric behind the sequins is the very soft velvet. The combination of the hard sequins and soft velvet fabric created a high-contract hand-feel on the bag. I was so happy to find this gorgeous new fabric for the first Glam Bag in 2024 to kick off the new year!”

The December 2023 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

‘Tis the season to go big or go home, so we pulled off a major beauty feat with December’s holiday-themed Glam Bag design. “I wanted this December Glam Bag to be a holiday makeup bag and also a party bag to add a little shimmer to your seasonal wardrobe,” says Wong.

The December Glam Bags are made up of three different fabrics, and topped off with an ornament-inspired gold ball zipper pull. The pink soft faux leather back is embossed with a metallic IPSY logo, and on the front there’s a split panel of magenta pink glitter and holiday green glitter fabrics. “If you look closer at the glitter fabric, both also have red and blue colors in them to make the glitter extra shine,” says Wong. 

And before you freak out at the mention of glitter—we completely understand the glitter anxiety, and we did everything in our power to ensure you weren’t left a huge sparkly mess any time you reached for your Glam Bag. “I know some glitters come off easily and are hard to remove from your clothes, skin, and hair, so we spent extra time and extra rounds of samples to make sure we found the right glitter fabric to use on the bag,” says Wong “I’m very happy with the improved glitter quality.”

The October 2023 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

At first glance, October’s Glam Bag design looks like a black and red lacy velvet pouch, but upon closer inspection, you’ll see the print is actually made up of black bats and spider webs for Halloween. “I’m very happy how the artwork came out on the velvet fabric. The printed fabric is so soft and smooth, and it’s very Halloween and also edgy,” says Wong.

According to Wong, the color combination of burgundy and black was inspired by a vampire makeup aesthetic—think deep merlot lips and smoky eyes—but she didn’t stop there. Wong continued the Halloween theme all the way down to the tiniest details, like the black zipper, lining, IPSY logo tag, and (of favorite part!), the bat-shaped zipper charm.

This voter-favorite Glam Bag is so much more than just a Halloween makeup bag. Wong recommends using it like a bag for a fancy dinner or a night out. “Add a circle key ring on the zipper puller chain link, and clip a removable wristlet strap on the key ring, then you will have a wristlet Glam Bag,” she advises.

The September 2023 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

However you identify—Latine, Latinx, Latino, Hispanic, or something else entirely—this Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating all the unique cultures within this diverse community by spotlighting the voices and beauty brands inspired by it, starting with our September 2023 Glam Bag design.

“To get inspiration to design a bag for the Hispanic Heritage Month, I was looking at the celebration activities, from concerts to art festivals and parades,” says designer Joanne Wong. “I got inspired by the colorful art, hand-crafted decorations and fashion, and the music that brings people together and makes them want to dance.”

The second you tear open September’s gorgeous ombré envelope and slide out your Glam Bag, you’ll notice the vibrant colors. The bright blue faux leather is printed with shades of pink, red, yellow (some of the most common colors seen in Hispanic and Latinx art), and topped with a multicolored tassel zipper pull inspired by the handmade Mexicanblankets and tassel earrings and charms. “I wanted to design a very playful Glam Bag to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and use the bright colors that represent the Hispanic and Latinx culture,” says Wong.

“The most rewarding part of designing the bag is connecting to the Hispanic and Latinx culture,” continues Wong. “When I showed the Glam Bag design to my Latinx friends, they told me they like the bag design to celebrate their culture and started sharing their beauty stories with me. Most of their beauty routines and tips are passed on from their grandmothers and mothers. I think it is very meaningful, and I really enjoy learning about their cultures.”

The August 2023 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

“I was inspired by the beauty of nature,” says designer Joanne Wong. “Sometimes life gets very busy and it’s good to find some slow time with nature to rewind and set your ritual routines. I wanted to create a bag that reminds me of the beauty of nature and also a bag that I would bring with me for outdoor summer activities.”

Your August Glam Bag design has a geometric pattern of squares and triangles reminiscent of mountainous landscapes, picnic tablecloths, even folding camping chairs. It’s all topped off with a matching green nylon zipper, lining, and tassel zipper puller (inspired by grass, says Wong). “This bag is made out of cotton canvas, so it’s very lightweight and could easily fit inside your backpack or belt bag without adding too much weight when you go outdoors and spend time with nature,” says Wong.

“What I love the most about this Glam Bag design is the color combination of green and pink for the nature and summer vibes,” says Wong. “The greens represent nature, like mountains and grass, while the IPSY Glam Bag pink adds more fun to the bag.”

My May 2023 ipsy included the following items:

–First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Niacinamide Brightening Cream (3mL) ($7.20): I have been testing out various eye creams lately so I was excited to get this. This is an illuminating eye cream that visibly brightens, hydrates, and smooths the eye area while helping to reduce the appearance of dark circles over time.  I don’t love it. I don’t feel like it did a great job with my puffy eyes. But I did love trying it and it saved me from buying a full-size.

–Pear Nova Lunar Lip Stylo in Gravity (full-size) ($18.50): Gravity is a creamy dark brown shade. It’s such a pretty color and the formula is great.

–Glow on 5th Plush Skincare Headband ($12): I think I am the only person who didn’t already own a headband like this, so I went ahead and selected it as my choice item for the month. I’m so glad I opted for it and it makes nightly skincare so much easier.

–Refreshments Brilliant Body Bar in Coconut Colada ($9): I don’t think I have ever received a Refreshments item in my ipsy? I don’t typically use bar soap, but my husband does so I passed this along to him. It does smell great and he will totally use it, so it’s a win.

–So Rich Single Highlighter in Medium Bronze (0.01oz) (~$7.50): Such a pretty shade!  It’s not too dark and just gives me a great glow.

–The Bag: Fun! It’s giving tropical vacation vibes. They always have a fun zipper pull on their bags too and this hot pink one is no exception.

All totaled my May 2023 ipsy had a value of about $54. Not my favorite ipsy ever, but still a solid month.

–GROWN ALCHEMIST Hand Cream: Vanilla + Orange Peel (20mL) ($8): This was my choice item and I would select it every month if I could. It smells incredible (it’s not overpowering at all) and is so moisturizing. Obsessed.

–KATE SOMERVILLE® ExfoliKate® Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash (30mL) ($11.19): This is a gentle foaming cleanser. It’s perfect for everyday use and this size is so great for travel.

–REALHER Mini Mascara #2 in Eye Am Beautiful (3.5mL) ($7.78):My lash extensions are off and I am now thrilled to get mascara in subscriptions. I love the applicator on this! No clumps, but lots of volume and length.

–YC COLLECTION Tweezers ($20): I love getting tweezers in subscription boxes! The sharper the better too!

–PINKLIPPS COSMETICS Loose Setting Powder in Banana (1.8g) ($4): This is probably the item I am least excited about from this bag. I just don’t wear makeup enough for it so I will pass it along to a friend.

–The Bag: This is a fun Spring bag!  I love the the florals and the “Do Good. Look Good” motto on the back.

All totaled my April 2023 ipsy had a value of about $51. This was a great month for me!

My March 2023 ipsy included the following items:

–GROWN ALCHEMIST Age-Repair Intensive Moisturizer White Tea, Phyto-Peptide (0.4oz) ($31.50): Age repair intense delivers intense hydration and serves as age-repairing cream with skin-resurfacing peptides and plant-based collagen complex for targeting wrinkles and expression lines. It has a slight herbal smell which I don’t love, but luckily it’s not overpowering. This is a great moisturizer and if I didn’t already LOVE mine, I might be tempted to switch.

–TARTE SUGAR RUSH™ lash treat™ volumizing mascara (2mL) ($5.64): I am getting rid of my lash extensions so I am now excited about getting mascara again! We’ll see how long this lasts though.

–SHAINA B MIAMI Setting Brush in Hot Pink Metallic ($5): This brush has 100% percent synthetic bristles to help you up the perfect amount of powder to add the finishing touches to your makeup without disturbing it.  I don’t typically use setting powder, so I will likely be passing this along to a friend.

–PURLISSE BEAUTY Radiant Glow Illuminating BB Cream SPF 30 in Medium (7mL) ($6.48): This really does make my skin glow. It’s a great lightweight option for Spring / Summer!

–GLOW ON 5TH Pore-Fect Detoxifying Mud Mask (15mL) ($4.50): I have yet to test this mask. My skin hasn’t had any big breakouts lately and isn’t in need of a detoxifying mask like this right now.  It sounds great though and is supposed to be safe for acne prone skin (aka me).

–The Bag: This 100% reminds me of the EPCOT ball. You can’t tell me the designer didn’t think of this? Officially it was inspired by “Greek statues and art deco“, but I am sticking with the EPCOT inspiration.

All totaled my March 2023 ipsy had a value of about $53. I was super impressed with this bag. I feel like ipsy has really been stepping up their customization options and just bags in general.

The June 2023 ipsy Glam Bag design has been officially revealed!

The world of beauty is like a playground for your creativity. Every liquid lipstick, eyeshadow palette, and nail polish shade offers the potential for self-expression. Each month we deliver a dose of excitement with our Glam Bag designs. For June, to celebrate Pride and the beauty of color, we wanted to take it one step further by enlisting the help of someone we know and love: IPSY’s very own superstar graphic designer, Ian Jay.
