Allure Beauty Box May 2016 Subscription Box Review
I have been hearing that some subscribers who subscribed after seeing the spoilers for this May box have learned that their subscriptions will actually be starting in June (and not May).  I have been a monthly subsciber since they switched over to Allure (from BeautyBar) so I didn’t have this issue, but let me know if this happened to you.

The May 2016 Allure Beauty Box theme was “Hot Summer” and included the following items:

~Foreo LUNA Play ($39): I actually own the full-sized LUNA so I was curious to see how this compared. From what I can tell it’s exactly the same, but smaller.  It’s gentle enough to use daily and has an internal battery that vibrates to help “remove gunk”.  It’s got enough “juice” for 100 uses and then it’s time to toss.  I wish there was a way to change the battery because it seems like an expensive item to have to toss after about 2-3 months (depending on how often you use it).  Still, I am happy to have it and plan to use it for traveling.  I love the way it makes my skin look and feel.

~Foreo Day Cleanser (15mL) ($4.50) and Foreo Night Cleanser (15mL) ($4.50): The “Day” Cleanser is a gentle face wash that cleanses without leaving skin tight and dry.  The “Night” Cleanser is a deep-cleaning face wash that cleanses skin and removes makeup.  The day one (it has a little citrus scent to it) is a smooth cleanser while the night one has little scrubbies in it.  I liked the night one better than the day (it just made my skin feel cleaner), but both seemed to do the job.

~Equitance Brightening Serum + Spot Corrector (7g) ($29.17): This serum “minimizes the appearance of spots caused by acne, hormonal changes and sun exposure”.  I have some dark spots I’d love to get rid of, so we’ll see how this spot treatment works.  According to the information booklet some people can see results in less than a month.

~Cotz Flawless Complexion SPF 50 (5g) ($1.44): This is a tinted noncomedogenic mineral sunscreen.  It’s thinner than a BB cream which I really like! It’s also not greasy and soaked into my skin quickly.

~Pixi Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle (1g) (~$4): I estimated the size on this one and guessed that it was about 1/3 of a full-size.  The color is described as “tawny-pink” and I’m just so-so on it.  I’m not really into lipstick as it is, but this just wans’t a color I loved.  I did like the formula though.

~Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara ($13.71): I have mentioned it before, but I am on complete mascara overload here so I have been passing my mascaras on to friends. This has an interesting candy corn shaped brush that is meant to target the small inner-corner lashes.

~Lauren B. Nail Polish in Santa Barbara Surf (Full-Size) ($18): This polish is a “glossy green-blue” that’s free of formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin and camphor.  It’s so pretty for the season and this is going on my nails this weekend.

I’m soooo thrilled with my box. Can’t wait to try the Luna. This has been my favorite box! And how gorgeous is this nail polish.

Happened to me. Heard rumors, contacted Allure who confirmed but no calls, emails or letters from Allure.

  3. Jackie Wallace

I love this box too! The nail is EXACTLY my style

I week ago I also heard the rumors so I contacted Allure customer service. No not getting May box, but we will send you February box free of charge, wasn’t pleased but whatever. Yesterday received an email that my package was shipped, totally expecting the free February box. But I received May!!! Totally surprised and happy! I’m loving the Luna. So hang in there, May box still might on its way!!

Debbie, are you a new subscriber? If so, when did you subscribe? Thanks!

j am one of the people who didnt get the may box and im super dissappointed. I really wanted to try the foreo because i am unable to purchase one on my own. This whole experience of subing to this box has been a real downer. I choose not to keep my sub after i was bumped to june.

It happened to me. I’m crushed. The guy gave me no time to cancel, he offered me nothing cuz he ran out of beauty boxes 4 days ago. Worst of all I didn’t hear it from them but from MSA. So I feel like one I should’ve got an email that they took my money a month and a half early, 2 that we should all get something for not getting a box/not canceling/missing out

I’m so glad I won these boxes from you. I’m really loving this one. My sister and her friends came over for her graduation party yesterday and went through my makeup stash and took a ton. So I feel like I can manage it better now and I’m ready to restart my supply. 🙂 Gotta love college kids.

I think with all the people canceling their accounts, I was able to get the May box. At first, Allure told me that I was getting June, but then I got an email today that my box shipped.

    1. SSM

I got an email on the 10th that my box had shipped, but I don’t know if it’s the May box or the “free” box they offered me when I expressed displeasure at my subscription starting with the June box. Debbie’s post, above, gave me hope that I might get May–I’ll report back here if I do.

      When did you subscribe?

    2. Andrea

I also wasn’t getting May (subscribed April 22) but my status updated on 5/11 to shipped. No email but we’ll see what happens. I was hoping if I was patient enough people would cancel and maybe I’d get it. We’ll see what happens. I heard people that were promised May when they signed up would get something sent out to make up for it. I know others requested and received the Love package or previous month boxes, but some mentioned something else they were working on so we’ll see.

Well, I’ve been kind of out of the loop with all of this, but I did sign up at the end of April for the May box, and it never arrived. I saw that the money was drafted from my account at the end of April, so I was just waiting patiently thinking the box was taking a long time to ship. When it hadn’t come, and I had not received an email by May 18, I realized something was definitely wrong. I emailed customer service, and they emailed me back saying that my subscription would start in June. I wasn’t offered anything for May, not even an older box. I’m wondering if they’re going to charge me again at the end of this month, which would mean that I would have to paid twice for the June box. I’m so disappointed!!

  10. Carolee

Asia I had the same thing happen except when I heard that a bunch of people wouldn’t be getting their box I called and checked on mine. They said I would not recieve one till June and I would not be charged again. So I took that and just figured I’ll wait till June. Then I started seeing people post that they were offered a complimentary box for may free of charge if they stayed. So I called back and said I think I’ll cancel my box after all and sure enough they offered me a free complimentary box if I stayed. I said sure I’ll take it and stay to get my June box since it’s already paid for. So maybe try calling and telling them you never received May and want to cancel see if they offer you one.

Thanks for the advice Carolee, I actually did contact them and they said they will send me a bonus box, and that I will still get the June box but not be charged until July (so, that’s a free box!). I’m still disappointed I didn’t get the amazing May box, but it’s definitely better than nothing!
